Walking Tour Route

1. Washburn Cottage (The Belle Inn)

29 Walnut Street / 1924

Once a practice cottage and dormitory for the Dorland-Bell Institute, the Washburn family donated this Georgian-styled building.

2. Sunnybank Inn

26 Walnut Street / 1840

Home to ballad singers Jane Gentry and Maude Long, this inn is now a hiker hostel and retreat recognized for its historical and architectural significance.

3. Welcome Center

106 Bridge Street

Learn about the area's natural and cultural history. Collect brochures and explore local exhibits.

4. Gentry Hardware

124 Bridge Street / 1943

Step inside this historic Tennessee fieldstone building, still operated by descendants of Jane Gentry. Don’t miss its original wood flooring!

5. Bluff Mountain Outfitters

152 Bridge Street / 1925

Formerly Anderson Grocery Store, this building’s rusticated block exterior is an excellent example of early 20th-century craftsmanship.

6. Library

170 Bridge Street / 1925

A community cornerstone offers a wealth of knowledge about the region’s history and culture. Visitors can browse a curated collection of local literature, historical archives, and resources on the Appalachian Trail.

7. Old Red Bridge

North Andrews Street / 1910

This wooden bridge, originally built in 1882 and replaced in 1910, is now used for foot traffic. A lovely piece of Hot Springs history!

8. Dorland Memorial Presbyterian Church

Corner of Meadow Lane & Bridge Street / 1901

Designed by Richard Sharp Smith, the church shares architectural details with the famous Biltmore House. (Please refrain from entering the building)

9. Chestnut Hall

64 South Spring Street / 1953

This former Methodist Church now serves as a community center for the arts. Throughout the festival, stop by for films and events.

10. Pine Hall

64 South Spring Street 

A versatile event space built with a commercial kitchen and seating for up to 100 people, Pine Hall is a hub for community gatherings and special events each day of the event.

11. The Boydston Cottages (Geode 79)

79 Walnut Street / 1900

The cottage was part of the Dorland Institute. The top floor contained dormitories, and the classrooms were downstairs. Girls had to learn how to care for children here.

From the Crocodile Caves of Ankarana to a 160-mile journey along the Tsiribihina and Manambolo Rivers and across the Spiny Desert to Tulear, it’s a thrilling, unscripted journey through Madagascar’s most rugged landscapes.

Kon - Tiki

a Norwegian documentary about Thor Heyerdahl's 1947 expedition across the Pacific on a handmade raft. Released in 1950 and directed by Heyerdahl, the film won the Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature in 1951. It chronicles the daring journey and showcases the explorer's adventurous spirit. Musical Talent

Pierce Edens and Kevin Reese are dynamic musicians deeply rooted in the Hot Springs community. Known for their raw, soulful sound, Pierce Edens blends Americana, folk, and rock, creating an electrifying musical experience. His gritty voice and powerful lyrics have made him a favorite on the regional music scene.

Kevin Reese, an exceptional guitarist and collaborator, adds depth and rhythm to their performances. Together, Pierce and Kevin craft a unique blend of storytelling and musical intensity, embodying the spirit of Hot Springs through their live performances. Their shows are not just concerts—they’re a reflection of the vibrant, artistic soul of the Appalachian region.
